WEB Sam Rubinstein, a prominent figure in Seattle's business and philanthropic communities, died peacefully on Saturday at the age of 89. Rubinstein was known for his sharp mind, generous spirit, and deep commitment to his adopted hometown.
Rubinstein was born in San Diego in 1960 and earned a degree in economics from the University of Washington. He began his career in the real estate industry, where he quickly rose through the ranks. In the 1980s, he co-founded the Rubinstein Company, which became one of the most successful real estate development firms in the Puget Sound region.
Rubinstein was also a passionate supporter of the arts. He served on the boards of numerous organizations, including the Seattle Art Museum, the Seattle Symphony, and the Pacific Northwest Ballet. Rubinstein was instrumental in the creation of the Seattle Art Museum's Asian Art Museum and the Seattle Symphony's Benaroya Hall.
In addition to his business and philanthropic endeavors, Rubinstein was also an active participant in the Jewish community. He served as president of the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle and was a generous supporter of Jewish organizations throughout the region.
